Soak, Scrub, Rinse, and Hang

The other day it dawned on me...
He hasn't learned to wash clothes!
This cannot be!

A boy needs to know how to wash his clothes,
his socks especially...

We hand-wash here, because it's the local thing to do.

First we soak.

Then we scrub, and scrub, and scrub.

Lu decided to go ahead and wash his hat.

 The rinsing is very important!

Wring it out, and put some muscle into it!

... and hang it out to dry.

  1. Hand washing? Well, he definitely needs practice there! My sister does not own a washing machine, but she lives in a flat in Sydney, so I don't get that. But nice work Lu (and a hat needs to be clean!)

  3. If you can teach your little man to handwash his clothes I definitely have to get better at teaching my girl to wash hers in a machine.

  4. Occasionally I handwash loads in our bathtub. It is FREE other than the cost of the soap, as long as I use cold water (brrrr!!!!). Plus, it is an amazingly good upper body workout! :) My biceps and triceps definitely gained some definition after I started with occasional handwashing. The only things I haven't done are dressy work clothes and jeans, mostly because I'm afraid of ruining the work clothes, and the jeans are insanely hard to wring out.

:) I actually found it very meditative. My friends, and my son, think I am nuts.

    1. You should have seen me washing my clothes in the sink of Duke university when I went there for a dance course and didn't know how to use the washing machines!

    2. Did the other students think something was wrong with you? LOL! I washed clothes in the sink of a resort hotel in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico when I was there in my early 20s, chaperoning students. My roommate, another chaperone, thought I was really strange for not sending it out to be washed by a service. I didn't want to spend the extra money! :)

    3. I'd go in the dorm bathroom at 5am so that no one would see me :)
It was when I finally asked someone to teach me how to use the machines that they thought something was wrong with me.
