To celebrate this first anniversary of ours,
we planned a breakfast out, followed by a swim in the lake.

So early this morning, we packed our bags, and off we went...
We started out with a strawberry smoothie,
and worked on more pattern drawing
while we waited for our food.
while we waited for our food.
I love fancy breakfasts.
Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and prawns...
And on we went to our favorite place.
As I watched Lu play in the water today, I saw poetry in his movements -
the poetry of this place, the poetry that made me fall in love with this place.
This place teaches us so many, many things.

This place teaches us so many, many things.
I took this photo on our first day, one year ago today...
Not really knowing where to start, we painted.
I will cherish this painting forever.
And equally cherished will be this photo taken by Lu today -
in which I can see the beauty of this place through his eyes.
I'm still not entirely sure of what we're doing,
but we are learning, both of us.
Every day.
And today, rather than sharing our ins and outs,
our ups and downs,
our curriculum choices,
our schedule changes,
or our lesson plans,
but we are learning, both of us.
Every day.
And today, rather than sharing our ins and outs,
our ups and downs,
our curriculum choices,
our schedule changes,
or our lesson plans,
it seemed more relevant to dedicate this post to remembering and appreciating our most important resources (our home, our community, the space we occupy on this earth, our environment) and to recognizing the teachers all around us - in the waves, the birds, the trees, the clouds...
Congrats on the year anniversary!!! Love this post :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Verdemama!
DeleteBefore you know it, five years or more will have passed by! :) We are in our fifth year now, and still loving it!
DeleteCongratulations on your first year! A fancy breakfast is a great way to celebrate anything. :P
ReplyDeleteThanks AMM!
DeleteAnd yes, even though I'm not a breakfast person (on a daily basis) a fancy breakfast is my absolute favorite meal (except for sushi - hmmm, maybe I should try sushi for breakfast!)
That is a great post! And a big milestone - congratulations! (and none of us really know what we are doing - we just know it's better than the other options!)
ReplyDeleteThanks Ingi!
DeleteTrue that!
Congratulations!! Such a wonderful post!
ReplyDeleteWe are also a bicultural family living in Guatemala and homeschooling. I've been following your blog for a few months now, and I am truly inspired by your approach and spirit. ¡Ánimo! Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Thanks AAD.
ReplyDeleteEver come to the lake? We'd love to get together with other homeschool families. How old are your kids?
